Welcome back to Weekend Writing Warriors and Snippet Sunday, weekly Sunday hops where writers share 8–10 sentences from a book or WIP. These lines close Chapter 31 of my alternative history, and come right after last week’s. Arkadiya Gagarina has just given the text of her petition to Aleksey, at the end of her dreamlike day, and asked if she might shake his hand in farewell. Little does she suspect this isn’t the last she’s going to see or hear from him.
She shook his hand very gently. “Thank you so very much for being so kind to me, Your Majesty. I’ll never forget meeting you, and will pass this story down to my great-nieces and great-nephews when I’m old.”
“Not to your grandchildren?”
“Don’t make me laugh. Women my age never suddenly find husbands. But good luck to you on finding your Tsaritsa. You only have one chance to pick the right empress-consort.”
I think I already have found my Tsaritsa, he thought as Arkadiya took her new key and went to move her luggage into the upgraded room. Man proposes and God disposes.
YES!!!! He should totally marry her! I can’t wait for him to say something.

A very sweet scene. /the lady definitely underestimates herself. A man who sights his target is not likely to be deterred. Great snippet.

Ah, a hint of romance. The final line seems sad and prophetic, considering what we know happens to the Romanov dynasty.

Love the setup to this scene, and his wandering thoughts as she moves to leave. Lost that last sentence!

Delicious. May they live long and happily together – and may there be healthy children to bring them both love and healing.
On the edge of my seat to see what happens when Arkadiya (whose name I love!) finds out that she could indeed have a husband, and maybe even grandchildren, one day.
